The Ghosts of Gaza. It involves this article. It involves a series of observations that are modified translations of articles published originally in the Italian daily il Manifesto between October 2023 and September 2024 and subsequently published on the blog of Media Theory.
So these short pieces—newspaper articles—are now collated into a single article and they seek to engage with the genocide of the inhabitants of Gaza by the Israeli state and consider its implications in uncovering questions of colonialism, rights, democracy, historical memory and responsibility in the heartlands of the West itself.
So, given that they were originally written a newspaper articles, this explains some of the repetitions in the argument as I try to drive home specific points largely absent from the unilateral mantra of mainstream media, political pronouncements and public discourse.
The article, therefore, tries to pose a critical attempt to provide other coordinates for which to map and conceive the colonial constitution of the present and the deafening silence of the hypocritical West and its so-called values in the face of the atrocities occurring in the eastern Mediterranean.
